Has it really been this long?
Harry Potter turns 20 on June 26, 2017. Wicked!
Yes, it’s been two whole decades since super author J.K. Rowling’s book about the orphaned wizard who grew up to become the savior of the wizarding world hit the shelves.
Who knew that “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in the U.S.) — which was initially rejected by multiple publishers, according to Rowling — would launch six more books, eight movies, several spinoff books, one hit stage play, a spinoff movie, a real life Quidditich World Cup and several theme parks and cafes.
The magical book has been translated into at least 73 languages and has been adapted into eight movies that grossed over $6.5 billion.
Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary celebrations are going up all over the United Kingdom on Monday inviting Muggles to dress up as wizards and participate in “magic and mayhem.”
Rowling will also bless all Potterheads with a Harry Potter exhibit in celebration of the 20-year milestone. The magical treasure trove of an event will explore the history of magic and display wizarding books. It will also feature never-before-seen material from Bloomsbury and J.K. Rowling’s archives.
