Jimmy Kimmel Reads Mean Comments From Trump Supporters

Jimmy Kimmel jokes on his late night show about making a "breakthrough" after a flood of mean tweets came in following his appeal to Trump supporters.

Donald Trump is not only changing the landscape of the country, but has reshaped the world of late-night, and it is evidently clear after watching Jimmy Kimmel this week.

On Tuesday night’s show of Jimmy Kimmel Live the comedian reached out to Trump supporters after responding to the catastrophe that broke out in Charlottesville, Virginia during the “Unite The Right” rally that took place.

Traditionally, the late night host tries to stay rather clear of speaking on anything too politically controversial, and who can blame him. However, this time after picking apart and critiquing Trump’s response to Charlottesville, he spoke directly to those that support and have voted for the president.

He told them that they all know they have truly made a mistake by voting him into the White House, and ended his monologue by saying :

“So you can do one of two things. You can dig in like Chris Christie at a Hometown Buffet, or you can treat this situation like you would if you put Star Wars wallpaper up in the kitchen: ‘Alright, I got caught up. I was excited and I made a mistake.”

To hear Kimmel’s speech in its entirety you can see it here.

As it turns out, Kimmel’s new hard political stance ruffled a few of Trump’s supporters.

On Wednesday's show, Kimmel began by reading aloud some of the most negative tweets and Facebook posts from some of the president’s supporters posted to roast the comedian in the style of his infamous mean tweets segments, where celebrities read rude tweets about themselves.

Kimmel, of course, took all the knocks in stride and didn’t miss a beat.

Before he read them he said to the audience  “ I think it might have worked. I really think I made a breakthrough, and I base that on the thoughtful responses I got on Twitter and Facebook."

Here’s the clip of the horrible social media posts that Jimmy Kimmel shared on Wednesday.

Kimmel earlier this summer made some waves on his show with political material. He got very candid about the controversial health-care debate after the birth of his newborn son, who was born with a life-threatening heart condition. Kimmel has definitely retooled his show for this new brave world that we are living in.
