One lovesick Dutchman was so desperate to meet his online romantic interest that he waited 10 days in a Hunan airport for her, but she failed to meet him after he arrived.
Alexander Pieter Cirk, 41, traveled all the way from Holland to Hunan province in central China to meet up with his internet girlfriend only to never see his beloved.
A woman with the surname Zhang, 26, had an alleged two-month relationship with Cirk before he suddenly decided to book tickets to Changsha airport.
She told Hunan TV that she thought he was joking about buying plane tickets. According to Mashable, she said, “We had advanced our romantic relationship, but later he seemed a little callous towards me. One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke.”
She later said that when he arrived at Changsha she was undergoing cosmetic surgery and couldn’t make it to meet him.
People’s Daily, China, reported that upon learning of his situation, airport officials offered him a place to stay nearby. But, Cirk refused, insisting that he must wait for Zhang by the exit, where they allegedly had planned to rendezvous.
After 10 long days and nights of waiting, Cirk—the unlucky lover—ended up being physically removed from the airport and taken to the hospital to be treated for exhaustion. He was released on Monday and returned back to the Netherlands.
In a twist of fate, however, it sounds like Zhang is still interested in carrying on a long-distance relationship with Cirk. She reportedly would like to meet him in person once she's recovered from her cosmetic surgery.
