6-Year-Old’s Kind Act Toward Homeless Man Turns Into Charity Drive

23-year-old Kenyatta Lewis shared the story on Facebook, telling the world how proud her daughter’s kind act has made her.

A 6-year-old African-American girl has shown the world what it means to be a good human being, with a kind act toward a homeless man.

Janiyah Lewis of Norfolk, Virginia, was out and about with her mother on just another regular day, when she came across a man crying on the sidewalk. Lewis was instantly moved by his tears and stopped to talk to him. Things soon got even more heart-warming when the little girl learned that the man was homeless, and parted with her own allowance to give him money for food and other expenses.

Lewis’ mother was so touched by her daughter’s kind act that she posted about the incident on Facebook.

“'Did you see that man crying? What's wrong with him?' I said yes but I'm not sure maybe he's just sad...She said, ‘Maybe he's hot and thirsty,’ she walked over to him and goes, ‘Hi sir, be happy, it's a nice day it's not raining. Are you hot ? Why don't you go home —the ground is dirty?’

"He says, 'I have no home but I will be OK.' She looked at him with the saddest face and goes, 'So that means you're homeless. So you have no food because you have no refrigerator.' She gave him a few dollars out of her purse and her drink and said, ‘Please go eat. It would make me happy. I like McDonald's you should go there,’” Lewis wrote.

The post took the internet by storm attracting around 178,000 shares and numerous likes and comments.

The mother-daughter duo set up a GoFundMe page in order to collect donations for the homeless. They have raised $935 of a $1,000 goal so far, and people online are hailing them as heroes for their kind gesture.
