An incredible example of interfaith harmony was witnessed on a NYC subway when people of different religions made room for a Muslim woman who had to feed her baby. Since then, the heartwarming photo has gone viral.
According to Jackie Summers, a Taoist who shared the photo on social media, the incident happened when he was traveling on the F train in New York City and saw a Hasidic couple standing. He stood up and gave up his seat to the couple. But, moments later, he saw the couple making room for a Muslim woman who was then able to nurse her baby.
The man captured the heart-touching moment and uploaded it on Facebook and Twitter.
“A Taoist (me) gives up his seat so a Hasidic couple could sit together. They scoot over so a Muslim mother could sit and nurse her baby, on Easter Sunday. This is my America: people letting people be people,” read the caption.
The reaction that the photo received online was also overwhelming. As one comment read, “My America as well, Jackie! Thank you for sharing this.”
“Best thing I have seen today, Easter Sunday. Thank you, good man,” said Laura Witt Hoover, a commenter.
Another commenter also thanked Summers for sharing the picture, “THIS, is what makes America great and these days I've been struggling to find ways to feel good about America. We, the people...Thank you for restoring a little of my faith in humanity today, Jackie.”
The photo has since been shared more than 30,000 times on Facebook and 4,000 times on Twitter.
Ever since President Donald Trump was elected, there has been a spike in hate-related incidents. Attacks on women in Islamic head scarves, racist graffiti and stories about bullying of immigrant children have come forward. The country has also been divided over the Mexican border wall and executive order on immigration that bars people to enter the U.S. from seven Muslim majority countries.
