Grandma Finally Meets Teen She Accidentally Invited For Thanksgiving

In one of the best stories to come out of Thanksgiving this year, Arizona teen Jamal Hinton finally met his new "honorary grandma" after a mistaken invite.

The Thanksgiving dinner everyone had been waiting for, finally happened.

The adorable grandmother, Wanda Dench, who accidentally invited a teen, Jamal Hinton, to her home for a plate of turkey, mashed potatoes and pie, remained true to her promise and hosted the stranger on Thursday night.

In fact, she was waiting outside her house to welcome the 17-year-old, embracing him when he arrived.

“I'd never seen her before and she welcomed me into her home,” he told ABC 15. “That shows me how great of (sic) a person she is, I'm thankful for people like that.”

Hinton has now become Dench’s “honorary grandson.”

Meanwhile Dench, who received overwhelmingly positive comments from the social media for her kindness, believes there is a higher power at work here.

“This wasn't me, it's come from God above,” she said. “He's just using us as his tools and vessels to bring a message to others.”

The text was originally meant for Dench’s biological grandson and his girlfriend. However, a small mistake turned into a beautiful story and new friendship.

The country may be in bad condition, and the political animosity may only be escalating, but nice people still exist. This is a fact we can all find comfort in. Take this incredibly accommodating grandma, for example, who texted her grandkid… or so she thought.

Turns out, she had accidentally looped in 17-year-old Phoenix-based Jamal Hinton in the group chat meant for her family, BuzzFeed News reports. The Thanksgiving dinner included “Justin” and “Amanda.”

For a minute, Hinton thought it was actually his grandma texting him, but a picture proved otherwise. The grandma has been identified as Wanda; she lives in Mesa, Arizona and she is devastatingly sweet.

So is Hinton actually going to Wanda’s Thanksgiving?

“If I was invited to their Thanksgiving for real, yes, I would go,” he said. “I would consider us as friends.”

As it turns out, Amanda is the girlfriend of Wanda’s actual flesh-and-blood grandson, Brandon, and Justin is Brandon’s younger brother’s boyfriend.

“[Brandon’s] family is pretty amazing, even if it’s your first time meeting them,” Amanda said. “They adopt you into the family immediately.” Apparently, they texted Hinton to organize legitimate Thanksgiving plans. This is really happening, and it’s pretty amazing.

Twitter’s reaction to the entire incident ranges from earnest admiration to actual, literal tears.

This holiday season, take a cue from Wanda and spread a little cheer. Be kind to strangers. It’s the least we can do.
