The Mannequin Challenge is apparently entering its spiritual phase.
It’s tricky getting a few dozen people to stand still for long, but 4,000 rabbis in New York could not be discouraged and, well, the results are predictably funny.
The rabbis had gathered for the annual Chabad-Lubavitch conference in Brooklyn and were filmed posing as the camera went past. Needless to say, some of the rabbis had a little trouble.
“It’s hard to get thousands of rabbis to stay still, but we went for it,” the Chabad organization writes in the caption to the video.
Some rabbis are admirably able to stand still in silence, but some can be heard chatting away as a rabbi is heard yelling, “Stop moving! He’s moving,” in the short video.
Officers of the New York Police Department also decided to join in on the action, but their commitment to the cause was clearly half-hearted.
Chabad-Lubavitch rabbis aren’t your usual luddites either. Two years ago they attempted to take one doozy of a selfie using a large camera extender and a fish-eye lens. The results were impressive to say the least.
The Mannequin Challenge however was one step too far for the ambitious rabbis. Nevertheless, nice try your … holinesses?!
