BERNIE SANDERS IS THE ONE FOR ME: Sarah Silverman Explains
Friendos! I made this vid about why I'm voting #BERNIE. Hope u eat it up. Bernie Sanders JASHPosted by Sarah Silverman on Monday, March 28, 2016
Comedian Sarah Silverman released a video on Monday hilariously summarizing why she believes Bernie Sanders is the candidate we should all be voting for.
In a single day, her video went viral, viewed over 14 million times on Facebook and shared over 200,000 times.
Silverman begins with the fact that she, too, once supported Hillary Clinton (“I’m a feminist. Democratic woman president? Yes please!”) because she could rationalize all the special interest and Wall Street money Clinton took: “Every politician takes money from big money, ever since it was made legal through Citizens United. It’s legalized corruption. If all the other ball players are taking steroids, you have to take steroids too to compete, right?”
Yet when she learned more about Sanders and his policies (particularly his refusal to accept campaign contributions from corporate interests), she was swayed into supporting him.
Silverman rebuts every major anti-Bernie argument critics put forth. She notes how his unorthodox campaigning method proves public funding of elections can be successful, adding that it is a “giant f*ck-you to the above-the-law billionaire class who have been controlling government policy with their money.”
She placates the rich: “Good lord, don’t worry! Under President Sanders, you can still become a super-rich a**hole! It’s just that your fellow hard-working citizens don’t have to feed their children cat food in order for you to do it.”
She clarifies his democratic socialism, pointing out all the socialist programs the U.S. already has in place, and also tackles that “electability” argument: “A lot of people will vote for Hillary because they don’t think Bernie can win. That is what my shrink would call a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
Silverman provides a clear, funny, logical argument to vote Sanders. And judging by the response, the people agree.
