Woman Berates Walmart Shopper For Using Food Stamps

In this YouTube video, an angry shopper heckles the man in front of her at a Walmart checkout for paying with food stamps and blames Bernie Sanders.

Political stereotypes can be brutal. A recent YouTube video captures an angry woman shaming a father for using food stamps to buy his groceries at a Walmart checkout counter.

In the video, the typical Republican versus Democrat argument ensues as the woman condescends to the man as if she, a taxpayer, is paying for his groceries.  The man’s son sitting in the shopping cart doesn’t seem to mind the heat between his father and the livid lady.

Where the video was captured is unclear, as is whether or not it was staged. Regardless, the viral video underscores the lack of knowledge that most people have regarding government financial assistance. For instance, the woman assumes that the man doesn’t work at all, to which he retorts that he puts in 50 to 60 hours a week.

By heckling the man for paying with food stamps and calling him a Bernie Sanders supporter because of it, the woman makes a fool of herself by showing just how little she knows about the U.S. food stamp program.

The program provides funds for not only food stamps, but also the school lunch program and the supplemental food program for women, infants and children. According to the Detroit Examiner, in 2012, the estimated daily amount taken out of taxes for the program was 10 cents for a $50,000 annual income.

Finally, the man gives up debating with the other shopper and says, “Okay, then contact your local senator and congressman and issue a complaint. Vote Republican. I don’t know what to tell you. I’m sorry. I don’t know what to tell you.”

The woman mentions how she’s not stupid and has a degree – as though that somehow justifies her incredibly rude and out of line behavior.

But, the woman in the video is not the only one at fault here. The man also makes assumptions about his adversary, and both people end up looking like idiots.
