Viennese Stanton wanted her father to walk her down the aisle for her wedding, and she wasn’t going to let his health condition stand in the way of making her dream come true.
On Facebook, Stanton shared the heartwarming story, explaining that her father was diagnosed with leukemia early this year. After several treatments, medications, and chemo, he still hasn’t won the battle against the disease, she explained.
When her now-husband proposed to her, Stanton planned a big wedding that was meant to take place in April 2018. However, she was told by her father’s doctors that his lungs were not going to hold up for much longer and that he only had a few weeks to live.
In order to make sure her father was the one to walk her down the aisle, Stanton and a group of caring nurses at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco planned a surprise wedding where he is being treated. Since they kept the ceremony a secret, Stanton’s father thought she was going to Las Vegas to be wed. He was only aware that she had, instead, brought the party to him when she arrived with her guests and groom.
"This was one of the best moments of my life,” she said in a Facebook post.
“We have both dreamed of him walking me down the aisle to my groom — and that moment finally happened,” she added
She finished her post saying she loved her dad more than he may know, and that she’s ready for anything that comes next.
It’s truly heartwarming to see a daughter change her plans and go to the lengths Stanton did to make sure her father was present during this important moment in her life. Hopefully he will triumph in this fight for his life so that he may see her accomplish much more in the coming future.
