A young woman showed she would go to any length to keep what is hers.
Melissa Marian, 28, posted a terrifying video of an attempted carjacking of her SUV in broad daylight on her Facebook page.
Marian was at a gas station on St Paul’s Avenue in downtown Milwaukee when a black Cadillac drew up near hers. As the woman went to grab the hose to refuel her car, a teenager rushed out of the Cadillac and dove inside her SUV.
When Marian saw this, she reflexively leapt onto the hood of her car to prevent the thief from stealing it.
“My first thought was ‘This is not happening to me today’ and I guess my first reaction was to jump on the top of the car,” Marian said. “I just has (sic) zero thoughts about how they could hurt me.”
“He looked at me, and he laughed at me, which really irritated me,” she added.
As the woman clambered on the hood, the teen behind the wheel started driving the car. He also attempted to throw Marian off the vehicle by braking the vehicle suddenly twice — but the tenacious woman hung on.
Left with no choice, the teenager grabbed her purse — which had her money, wallet and iPhone — from the car and abandoned it, leaving it in gear. Marion was left with the difficult choice of going after her purse or pursuing her runaway car which was heading into traffic. She chose the latter, ran after her car, hopped into it and stopped it before it could crash into a light pole.
“I know my reaction was not the smartest nor safest but it was my instinct reaction. These four teens showed no remorse for what they were doing as they laughed at me while attempting to steal my car. They did make away with my purse, iPhone and wallet,” she said.
She also has a word of advice for the four teenagers.
“I think teens do it because they think it's cool," Marian said. “But it's just like you get told by your mom when you're a kid, 'If everyone else was jumping off a bridge, would you do it too?'"
“It will not make you good, honest money. It will not make your life easier, it will only make it harder,” she added
Marian also got a lot of support from social media users.
