It's both uplifting and heart-wrenching: An 8-year-old boy with cancer attended prom in Mason City, Iowa, on April 22.
The child, Elliot Burgos, is battling cancer in his brain and spine, KWWL reports via CNN. He has been unresponsive to chemotherapy, but doctors will try to use the measles virus to kill the cancer cells as part of a clinical trial. His parents said that, unfortunately, there has been a delay in the trial due to paperwork.
So, Elliott's older brother, Cameron, and Cameron's girlfriend came up with a plan to bring him to prom at Mason City High School.
Adorably, Elliott believes he was doing a service for his older brother by attending prom with him.
"Cameron didn't want to go so I helped him," Elliot says.
KCRG reports that Elliot was crowned prom king, and he even danced to his favorite song — "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz.
According to Elliott's dad, Jonathan Burgos, Elliot has a lot to fall back on.
"It just brings a smile to his face and everybody is here to support him," he says.
